Snohomish Education Foundation (SEF) seeks Executive Director

Director, Sherri Williams, will be retiring the end of 2017. A search is now in place for a new Executive Director for this fall; the SEF board is accepting letters of interest now.

At the end of 2017, Sherri Williams will step down from what she describes as “the most rewarding job I’ve ever had!” Ending her career of 35 years, Sherri and her husband will start their retirement in early 2018 taking the first year to tour the United States.

Williams is working closely with the board during this transition to her departure. “I’ve enjoyed this work more than any other in my career,” she emphasized. “I’ve put my job skills to work with the Foundation, but it has been the community, SEF Board and the rewards coming from helping others that make this job so hard to leave. It is gratifying to know that the board is looking for someone with passion, commitment and heart for this work and our community and that they will continue to help SEF grow and benefit the students of the Snohomish School District”.

As the Director of the Snohomish Education Foundation (SEF) for the last 2 ½ years, Williams, along with a volunteer board of directors, has helped SEF increase its visibility in the community and provide more financial support to students and schools. All events have increased in revenue with more local business partnerships and sponsorships than ever before.

Board President Robin Stefanson, said, “Because of Sherri’s strategic work, keen business sense and unfailing dedication to support student learning, the Foundation has grown and been much more successful in its mission. “Our challenge now,” Stefanson emphasizes, “is to find someone who can build upon Sherri’s strong work and take SEF to the next level of supporting student learning.”

Stefanson expressed her and the board’s gratitude to Williams for announcing her retirement plans so far in advance. “We are saddened by her announcement at the same time we are happy for this new phase in her life. The timing of her announcement is a gift of time for the Foundation — time to design a process to recruit and select a qualified applicant who can shadow Sherri for a time before she leaves.” A board member committee is now designing the new job description, hiring process and timing of hiring a new Executive Director. “This is an incredibly important position in our community, and the board is carefully crafting an Executive Director position description and clarifying what the responsibilities are.

“We appreciate hearing from those interested in this position now,” said Stefanson. “We ask for letters of interest that specify why a potential applicant is interested in this position, experience working with not-for-profit groups, familiarity with volunteer organizations and K-12 public education, history of fundraising success and building community coalitions and partnerships along with managing a scholarship program. Our selection process will very likely involve different interview levels, interactions with board members and reference checks. We want the person we select to be as comfortable with and committed to SEF work and this community as we are – and as our students, teachers and schools deserve.”

The Foundation invites letters of interest and resumes to be sent to SEF, P.O. Box 1312, Snohomish, WA 98291. According to Stefanson, the position will soon be advertised with a potential salary range. The salary will be based upon qualifications and experience. Those details will also be a part of the official job posting expected in August with interviews to follow in September for hiring planned by mid-October.
