Hour of Code at Riverview Elementary

Recently members of the Snohomish Education Foundation, the Snohomish School District Board and Administrators joined students at Riverview Elementary to get a firsthand look at Computer Science. Part of the National Hour of Code and Computer Science Week, the event showcased computer science education in the classroom.

The Snohomish Education Foundation is supporting the District in expanding Computer Science throughout the district. This opportunity for students to engage in coding activities is one of several activities and initiatives currently underway.


1st Graders using BLOCKLY

The 1st graders demonstrated how to program DASH Robots to move to certain spots on the carpet using BLOCKLY programming.

 

2nd Graders explain how to code

At the Riverview library, the 2nd graders explained how to code with various coding activities

 

OZOBOTS Rectangle Challenge

The Riverview 4th graders wowed everyone with their Rectangle Challenge using OZOBOTS with block programming.

 

5th Graders & MAKEY MAKEY’s

5th grade students displayed MAKEY MAKEY’s, circuit boards that allow students to use any conductive material to create a keyboard to control their computers. The 5th graders used water, fruit, graphite, and other items to run programs to play the piano, drums, Donkey Kong and much more.
