Snohomish Education Foundation Awards nearly $65,000 in Classroom Grants to Snohomish School District Educators

Each year the Snohomish Education Foundation offers district educators the opportunity to submit innovative ideas to educate, motivate, and stimulate the young minds in our community. We are proud to announce that this year the Foundation awarded nearly $65,000 in Classroom Grants in response to the many amazing ideas submitted. These eighty-nine grants are a testimony to the innovative and creative nature of our teachers, allow teacher inspired programs to become a reality and encourage teachers K-12 to be innovators in the classroom.

Some examples of the innovative grant requests that received funding from the Foundation this year include: a summer book mobile, a Transitional Center class that teaches budgeting to special need students transitioning out of High School, a young authors conference for Middle School students, a weather station that allows elementary students to take science readings, iPads and Autism Speaks applications for special education students, a high school student trip to Olympia allowing students to introduce a bill at the state capitol, and journals for a family poetry night.

“We are proud of the fact that we have been able to increase our funding for these inspiring grants year after year.” said Steve Thomas, Trustee and Committee Chair. Many of the educators who received grants this year were able to share their projects and experiences with the community at the Annual Awards Classroom Grant Ceremony held on February 19, 2013.

The Snohomish Education Foundation Board thanks our many generous donors for supporting student success and continuing to make a significant difference in the lives of children. “We are proud to do our part in providing teachers and students with the tools they need to succeed.” said doctorate level sponsor SBI President, Raymond Near. In addition to SBI, the Foundation thanks the following businesses that provide annual sponsorships: Absher, Mountain Pacific Bank, Beresford, Coastal Community Bank, Whidbey Island Bank Dykeman Architecture, Ideal Communications, McDaniel’s Do-it Center, and Comcast.
